Mrs.Jane Cowin

by mrs. Jane Cowin
(Lolland Denmark)

The Danish sprog its not easy to learn, I find it very hard to understand it, and I have now been back in Denmark for nearly 10 years, and I still find it difficult to get to grips with it.
When I hear a lot of people talking together, I am lost, despite being a dane.

But I do get by, I have a job, so that helps me a lot, friends do tell me my danish is getting better, as long as I can make myself understood, then its fine.

is there some one else who feels like that, since returning to denmark? Or have I just been away for to long.

Respond: ME! I do I do! Some people understand me fine - actually most Danes, but there are some people who look at me and say "SPEAK DANISH!". Often it is elderly people with hearing problems, so it makes it even more difficult for them. But when in groups, it is often hard to follow conversations.I just nod and look like I understand and laugh along with everyone else.

One on one is always easier and with people who speak clear Danish - not the guttural slang which is common in Jutland.
