Moving to Copenhagen with Pets

by Tom R
(France)

Hi Charlie,

Thanks a lot for maintaining this website, a vital source of information for my wife and me, who are moving to Copenhagen in a few days.

I read that you managed to relocate with a pet, which seems to be a problem in most cases. Even though our dog is very calm, clean and nice, very often, pets are simply not allowed in the buildings.

How did you find your current place ? Was it hard to convince the landlord to accept your animal ?

Thanks again, and keep it up

Tom R

A: Hi Tom,

Finding a place that accepts pets can be a problem. When searching for rentals, look for ads that say "husdyr tilladt". Sometimes if you find a rental, you can talk them into allowing small pets, but if it is an apartment complex, they will have building rules which forbade pets.

It is often easier to find "rakkehuse" or terraced houses that will allow pets versus high-rises. If you have a small dog it is easier to find a place than with large dogs.

I do not know any set rules to finding "pet friendly" rentals, since they are spread about. On the rental sites, you can usually check a box indicating that you want a place that accepts pets. There will be pet deposits, which are often steep in Denmark.

Hope that helps.
